This past Saturday, March 14th our very own Kenny Blewett and Craig Theime made their amateur debuts! It was great to see the guys go out there and put it on the line and show how much their hard work paid off. First up was Kenny taking on a very game Gabriel Crowley. The two engaged in a grappling chessmatch where Kenny displayed his usual slick BJJ skills, however Crowley defended with slams. Crowley was awarded the win due to the ref stopping the match after a slam by Crowley. The match was later ruled a No Contest, as it is illegal in amateurs to lift your opponant above your waist and slam them. Regarless, great fight by Kenny and he'll be back in action soon. Craig Theime was up next taking on Juan Pichardo from TSK. What a battle it was! Craig looked great, pressing the action every second. Craig landed vicious kicks and punches and picked up the win via unanimous decision. Congrats to both of these guys for representing the team so well!
Next weekend, March 21st Kevin Roddy will be fighting down in Virginia. Up later this month we have Sugar Steve Deangelis, Lester Caslow, and Dave Church fighting in Extreme Challenge on March 28th at the Trump Marina. Tickets are available now and going quickly, get yours this week! The guys are training hard and getting prepared for battle. On a side note Coach Pellegrino and Assistant Coach Steve Deangelis are in Chicago this week training with Miguel Torres for his upcoming WEC title defense on April 5th.
The academy is packed, if you havent been in lately, get back on the mats!!
